Friday Music

I've been watching a bit of Rage on early weekend mornings. No more sleeping in until midday with Ray on the scene. This music video stopped him in his path of destruction, and he sat transfixed for nearly half the song. Then it was back to rampaging around, chucking toys everywhere and pulling out all the books and records off their shelves!

Banoffee

Melbourne people will spot some familiar locations in this clip by local lady Banoffee, the song is pretty rad too!

YOLO Yoko

I do like this YOLO/Yoko tee, by African Apparel. I also like Yoko's new song and video, which is hilarious and guaranteed to get stuck in your head.

Losing You

I think I like this video more than I like the song, and I like the song A LOT! Happy (nearly) weekend everyone!

RIP MCA

This was given quite a few spins during the weekend. Hearing the sad news about Adam Yauch brought back so many memories from my teenage years. I remember when I first started going out and meeting exciting new people, and making friends with people that didn't go to my high school, the Beastie Boys were playing a lot during that time. I thought it was the coolest music ever, and I'll always associate them with that time.

A bit of Alex James

Seen via Miss Moss, I am loving these photos of Alex James from the Aubin & Wills spring lookbook. I'm a little bit infatuated with Mr James after reading his autobiography A Bit of a Blur. I love music biographies and his is one of the best I have read. It's such a great read, and quite surprising following his life from rock star playboy to married country gentleman and cheese monger.

I've also been swooning over this behind the scenes video of Alex and Irina Lazareanu, larking about in London and the country side and stuff.

Spendy Spenderson

I know everyone keeps saying this, but this year is FLYING BY! Seriously. For me this means that my overseas trip to the US of A is even closer and I really need to tighten my belt. My great plan of saving before I leave has not been going well at all. Probably something to do with all these things I keep 'accidentally' buying online…

Twenty Seven Names for Glassons sunglasses (that I wrote about here) and floral print trousers. It was quite tough only ordering these two things - Glassons online is looking so good! Not to mention that money raised through purchases from their Cure Shop Collection goes towards the Breast Cancer Cure Research Trust.

Nature Baby Hei Tiki t.shirt. In LA I'll be catching up with some old friends, and meeting their new baby, who judging from the photos I've seen is the cutest baby ever! And, seeing as he is half kiwi, he will need some Aotearoa inspired baby-wear. This is actually quite organised of me to have this sorted already *pats self on back smugly*

In even more smug forward planning, I have ordered this to be blasted this year on December 25!

Dawn Tan's meaty pillowcases - I saw these at a market Dawn was involved with earlier in the year and couldn't stop thinking about how awesome they were. So I had to get in touch with her to see if I could order my own - and I could! This photo is from Dawn's blog, but once my own pillowcases arrive I will very likely be sharing them here!

Good Times Mix Swap

A while ago I participated in the mix cd swap that Mallory from Where the Lovely Things Are proposed to readers of her excellent blog. There's no better way to discover new music than receiving a handmade mix, and this particular mix swap had the added bonus of getting paired with an awesome new bloggy friend. This is what I received from my mix-swap partner Helena, of The Herbarium.

I was extra chuffed when I received this beautiful hand knitted bow with my mix - so sweet! The theme for the mixes was GOOD TIMES, and though we both chose some similar artists, all the songs we picked were different - surely this equals a musical match success!

Thanks to Helena's mix I am now totally obsessed with this song:

Thanks again Helena, and thank you Mallory for coordinating it all!

Dazed Bjork

I saw an airfreighted copy of this mag yesterday but it was a bit pricey for me. I'll definitely be buying it once it comes out here at a normal price. I'm frugal like that :)

Bjork's new album Biophilia is out next month. Have you seen the video for the first single Crystalline? Have a look here.

Coachella Dreamin'

I've been getting even more obsessed with instagram lately. And especially over this weekend when I found users who were uploading photos from Coachella Music Festival. This looks like the most sunshiney, celeb filled festival ever, and I'm glad I could live vicariously through some of these pics…

Wings for the Weekend

I just love it when you buy a record, take it home and then discover that it comes with an awesome poster concealed inside! I just bought Wings - Band on the Run on vinyl, only to discover a poster inside made up of polaroid snapshots of the band! These above are just a small selection … Happy weekend everyone! xx

Forever Dolphin Love

Haunting new song and video from Connan Mockasin. The video has a five minute intro, so if you're feeling impatient there's also a lovely acoustic version of the song here.

Golden Plains

A few weeks ago I went to my first Golden Plains, which is now in its fifth year and is kind of a sister festival to the longer running Meredith Music Festival. Both festivals have developed their own wacky traditions, including the 'Rangapalooza' tree - a meeting place for red haired friends (see photo below), and 'The Boot' which we quickly learned about after laughing at a guy in the crowd waving his shoe in the air during Joanna Newsom. Mr Meet-Cute, being silly, took his own shoe off and was waving it too until someone told us that this actually means that you're casting your vote for the best song of the festival. You can see a few shoes held aloft in the pic above!

The above photographs I took on my plastic fantastic $15 camera, and those below are from my Golden Half.
