Film adventures

I think I mentioned this in an earlier post, but I have had some terrible luck with my film cameras. My Golden Half just upped and stopped working, as did the camera Mr Meet-Cute gave me for Christmas. Sad, but I'm still hoping I can fix them one day. In the meantime, Mr Meet-Cute found me an ace new/old camera in a junk shop in the Yarra Valley, and these are the results from the first test roll - Not bad!

These first photos were all taken at TarraWarra Museum of Art and the TarraWarra Winery. It was such a beautiful day, we really picked a good one for heading out of town.

These are from some wanderings round the neighbourhood.

It even works indoors! So goddamn pleased.

Milkbar

I love the look of this colourful new book Milkbar: A Photographic Archive Vol 1, by designer and creative all rounder Eamon Donnelly. This type of corner shop is called a dairy in New Zealand, but if you move to Australia and tell people you're just popping out to the dairy then you'll get some funny looks.

These photos are all come via Eamon Donnelly's new website The Island Continent, where I have just spent a ridiculous amount of time. It's quite something.

Slime Square

This has been added to my 'Books I Want' list: The Forty-Deuce: The Times Square Photographs of Bill Butterworth, 1983-1984.

I love anything to do with New York in the eighties. I know that in reality it would have been pretty sleazy and grimy back then, but that just adds to the nostalgic glamour! Street photographer Bill Butterworth captures the characters of Times Square in gritty old school New York (including a young Vincent Gallo). It's a pretty seedy underbelly, but his subjects are shown in a positive way, instead of focusing on what is most likely some pretty depressing realities. The book features quite a few boob shots that I've chosen not to share here - sorry pervs! You can see them, and more over here instead.

Tails from the Fishbowl

Photographer and animal lover Rachel Bellinsky's new book Tails from the Fishbowl documents the little animal faces spied while she walks her dog in their Southern California neighbourhood.

In the apartment next door to mine lives an old golden labrador who often spends his days on the balcony peering out over the street. We call him 'Perve Dog', and it's always a good day when we see him at his post.

Cardboard Camera

I so hope that Ikea Melbourne start stocking these cardboard cameras. The usb port on the side plugs straight into your computer to download - how easy is that?

NZ Part II

More NZ! These photos are from a day trip to Queenstown.

I know, a photo of ducks, how exciting! But how clear is that water? I can't get over it.

These are from a lakeside market. I didn't buy anything though.

Breakfast at Joe's Garage. I'm trying to overcome my feelings of awkwardness when taking photos in public. Being somewhere away from home seems to help, but when I was taking this I heard the guy at the next table say "Better hurry up before it gets cold"! I know he was trying to be funny, but I felt so self conscious that I pretended I didn't hear him!

Vesta is one of my favourite shops in the world. If you ever find yourself in Queenstown you have to pay them a visit.

And on the way home we stopped here, 'The Vege Shed' which is in the tiny town of Athol.
