Mighty Brown River

Some Golden Half photos I just got developed. Obviously these were taken a while ago when it was warm and summery, unlike now which is fr-fr-freezing! One of my favourite Melbourne activities is hiring rowboats from the Fairfield Boathouse and going boating on the mighty brown Yarra River. Follow this up with potato wedges served with a layer of grilled cheese, and you have a pretty perfect summery outing.

Golden Plains

A few weeks ago I went to my first Golden Plains, which is now in its fifth year and is kind of a sister festival to the longer running Meredith Music Festival. Both festivals have developed their own wacky traditions, including the 'Rangapalooza' tree - a meeting place for red haired friends (see photo below), and 'The Boot' which we quickly learned about after laughing at a guy in the crowd waving his shoe in the air during Joanna Newsom. Mr Meet-Cute, being silly, took his own shoe off and was waving it too until someone told us that this actually means that you're casting your vote for the best song of the festival. You can see a few shoes held aloft in the pic above!

The above photographs I took on my plastic fantastic $15 camera, and those below are from my Golden Half.

Golden Almost Halfs

Since getting my new Golden Half camera I've been so excited about sharing some snaps with you all! However, I have been having the worst run of luck with film cameras lately - the last three rolls that I've taken to get developed have all had mysterious problems with them, meaning that none of my snaps have come out. The first two were taken using my trusty $15 camera, which I've never had any problems with before. I was using a super cheap brand of film, so for now I am blaming that. Then, the first roll I shot with my new Golden Half came out all grey and grainy - which I've been told was due to the film being quite old (it was a free roll of film that came with the camera). I know I'm not the first person to experience such problems with film, but it is such a bummer. As the Aussies say, "I was devo".

So then, yesterday I got my second roll of Golden Half film developed, and Good Grief! The photo lab I went to had split all the photos into single shots. The whole point of the Golden Half is that it takes half frame pictures, so each shot contains two images, like a diptych, and is separated by a black line. Instead of this the shots had all been separated. So frustrating! But I guess that at least I know now that the camera does work. Below are some of the pics I got, which I have tweaked myself because I am ridiculous and wanted to show them in the diptych format! (I held back from photoshopping in the black dividing line that should be there too).

If you'd like to see some examples of how Golden Half shots look when properly developed there are some beautiful images here on neonsleep.

Hipstamatic Love

One of the main reasons I got an iphone was so I could take photos with the Hipstamatic App. Everything looks great with Hipstamatic - even the Red Rooster sign! So colourful!

I really like the black and white settings too

However, I would like to be a better film photographer. So I have bought myself a Golden Half camera online - exciting!! I can't wait for it to arrive, and just in time for summer too. The Golden Half takes split screen shots, so you end up with 2 shots squeezed onto the one print - or a diptych to be more precise! Shots like these were what inspired me to get the Golden Half: neonsleep.com/summergold03/
Stay tuned for some summery Golden Half pics! Coming as soon as I get my camera delivered, and then take a roll of film, and then get it developed!
