The 90s are Coming

Graphic designer Mike Wrobel has done a series on Game of Thrones characters as set in the 80s/90s. AMAZING! I can't believe we have to wait a whole year for new epsiodes :-(

Slime Square

This has been added to my 'Books I Want' list: The Forty-Deuce: The Times Square Photographs of Bill Butterworth, 1983-1984.

I love anything to do with New York in the eighties. I know that in reality it would have been pretty sleazy and grimy back then, but that just adds to the nostalgic glamour! Street photographer Bill Butterworth captures the characters of Times Square in gritty old school New York (including a young Vincent Gallo). It's a pretty seedy underbelly, but his subjects are shown in a positive way, instead of focusing on what is most likely some pretty depressing realities. The book features quite a few boob shots that I've chosen not to share here - sorry pervs! You can see them, and more over here instead.

Times Square

Reasons why blogging is awesome: After I wrote about the Times Square soundtrack a while ago, and the fact that none of the dvd stores round these parts have the film, I heard from Jess who offered to send me copy!

I'm a huge fan of eighties teen films, and I absolutely love seeing anything that's set in eighties New York - it just looks so dirty and exciting! So this film ticked a lot of boxes for me. Plus, I am counting down the days until my own trip to New York, though I realise Times Square looks nothing like this anymore…

Thanks so much Jess for the Times Square hook up!

Weekend Movie - Valley Girl

Eighties teen movies are the best! I had a weekend viewing of Valley Girl, which is famous for it's teen 'Valspeak', and also for featuring a very young Nicolas Cage in one of his first lead roles, "he's like tripendicular, ya know?"

I love this shirt of Julie's. In this scene above she tries to ensnare her crush with the line "Have you tried the sushi yet?" It doesn't work.

In the scene pictured above Julie's Dad shares some fatherly wisdom whilst working on his macramé. I loved Julie's hippy parents, who own a health food store, "Like, it's not cool at all! Like, it's all this stuff that tastes like nothing and it's supposed to be soooo good for you. Why couldn't they, like, open a Pizza Hut or something?"

Crafting up some prom decorations.

Post-prom heading to the Valley Sheridan Hotel. Anyone who has seen any teen movies (or Beverly Hills 90210) knows what that means…
