CERES Saturday

Before I started my pottery class on Saturdays I was a regular at CERES market and shop. There was a break between pottery terms this weekend so it was nice to go and visit CERES once more. I'd been missing it!

There's a lot going on at CERES, which stands for Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies. As well as the shop and market there's the sprawling urban farm, community education and environment centres, an awesome plant shop and nursery, and a cafe, where we had some delicious breakfast. And there's always lots of good dogs there.

This is part of what I bought. Everything at the shop is in bulk so you need to bring your own jars and bags to fill up. The first time I went to the market I forgot to bring my reusable shopping bags - oh the shame!

I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing when I was filling up the quinoa - I accidentally mixed in some red quinoa that I wasn't going for. The perils of self service.

Moonrise Kingdom Day

Tonight I am going to see Moonrise Kingdom. It's screening as part of MIFF, and it's sold out bishes! I have learnt from past MIFF experiences that anything popular will sell out lightning fast, so I bought my tickets the first day they were on sale, and have been feeling pretty smug ever since (although the film is going to be out in Australian cinemas in a few weeks anyway). It takes a while for non-blockbustery films to reach us downunder,  so I've already just about overdosed on Moonrise Kingdom imagery. Still excited to see it however! And I have been enjoying these photos of the cast while not in character, from the film premiere at Cannes, and of Kara Hayward and Bill Murray for Harpers Bazaar.

I've been taking a pottery class for the last few months and learning to use the wheel. It's the second time I've taken pottery lessons, and boy does it take a while to get the hang of it. Learning the wheel, finally producing something, waiting for it to dry, trimming it into shape, getting it fired, glazing, firing again… It's such a slow process, which I think has been really good for me. I've become so impatient in this age of instant information, this old brain of mine isn't used to learning new tricks! Now, however, the class has become one of the highlights of my weeks, though I still have a long way to go, and a lot to learn. In the meantime I'll be soaking up inspiration from all these potters above.
